10 work from home jobs that don't require experience
Jump to section

While much of the world is currently working from home, over half of the American workforce is still reporting to an on-site location. For many, showing up to a job in person every day isn’t ideal.

Luckily, there are many opportunities that will allow you to work remotely and make money without any experience.

In this article, we’ll walk you through exactly what it means to work from home and our top ten choices for remote positions.

What is a work-from-home job?

A work-from-home job is a job that’s considered remote or a job that doesn’t require you to report to an office. Work-from-home jobs with no experience needed often include roles with a flexible schedule like an Uber driver or online shopper.

These are “remote” opportunities that don’t require reporting to an office at all, but they also aren’t done from one’s actual house.

There are plenty of remote jobs that you can actually do from home, and that’s what we’ll look at in this article.

If you’re asking yourself, “How can I work from home with no experience?” we’re here to help.

10 work-from-home jobs available with no experience

The following list is of jobs offered to candidates without any experience. In some cases, no education is required. Some of these roles require nothing more than a reliable internet connection.

1. Data entry clerk

A data entry clerk is responsible for administrative or routine clerical tasks that typically require entering data of some sort into a computer system.

While this role often doesn’t require experience or education, you’ll need computer skills and to know how to input data in forms like this one:

Data entry jobs are often abundant in industries like medicine and finance, where a lot of sensitive information needs to be recorded into computer systems from paper documents.

2. Administrative, virtual, or executive assistant

The day-to-day work of an administrative assistant, virtual assistant, or executive assistant (EA) can vary greatly depending on the company and the actual executive that you end up assisting.

This job typically includes tasks like answering the phone, arranging meetings and travel, juggling schedules, and taking notes.

Beyond these administrative tasks, many virtual assistant jobs offer professionals the opportunity to grow and become trusted business advisors or partners in their executive’s firm. The role typically includes lots of growth potential and can lead to future opportunities.

3. Social media coordinator or community manager

Acting as a company’s social media coordinator or community manager means managing social media channels, groups, or forums on behalf of a brand, person, or media channel. While this role typically doesn’t require education or experience, you’ll need to prove your knowledge of social media, which can be done using your own social channels.

Below is an example of a community that’s run by Tiny Buddha, a site that offers simple wisdom for complex lives. Its community forum allows people to discuss the principles of minimalism and mindfulness.

Moderators or community managers keep track of conversations, enforce rules, and assist paying members.

4. Customer service representative

A customer service representative (CSR) works directly with customers on behalf of a company or in a virtual call center. They handle complaints, process orders, answer questions, and provide general information about a company’s products or services as part of a sales representative team.

Some CSR roles will require you to have a bachelor’s degree. However, many opportunities don’t require education of any sort. A lot of these are also remote.

5. Translator

If you speak more than one language, you can find work as a translator. You’ll be responsible for converting written material from one language to another. This can be done without obtaining a college degree.

In many cases, this job requires more than just a simple translation. You’ll find yourself also having to preserve the original meaning of the work.

6. Audio transcriptionist

Working as an audio transcriptionist requires listening to a video or audio recording and converting what you can hear (including background noise) into written text.

Audio transcriptionists are often asked to transcribe interviews, academic research notes, video clips from government meetings, and many other types of audio content.

Transcription roles don’t typically require work experience but do require a good grasp of the English language.

7. Search engine evaluator

A search engine evaluator, sometimes also known as a rater, helps search engines like Google and Bing evaluate the quality of their search results.

Your ratings provide those search engines with information that allows them to improve their search algorithms. These jobs are often taken by a freelancer or someone looking to grow a side gig. Here’s an example of a search query that you might run while working as a search engine evaluator.

8. User testing

Working in user testing typically involves using a website, app, product, or service before it’s launched to see if it works the way it’s supposed to.

You can work at home in user testing without any prior experience, as long as you meet the company’s requirements.

9. Proofreader or copyeditor

Proofreaders and copy editors read written works, whether that be books, marketing materials for companies, or any other type of written document, to catch spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors.

They’re also responsible for looking after formatting to spot any issues, like sentences that are included twice, words that could get cut off in printing, or a date missing from a place where there should be one.

It’s common to see roles as a proofreader or copy editor that require a bachelor’s degree, but you can find opportunities that only require proof of good communication skills in place of a degree or experience.

10. Graphic designer

Graphic designers build visual concepts to create many different types of projects — including posters, logos, billboards, brochures, packaging, marketing materials, and more.

There are many online jobs and remote jobs in graphic design, both full-time and part-time. These typically don’t require more than a high school diploma and a portfolio. Below are examples of logos that you might be asked to develop as a graphic designer:
