What do you need to work at Securitas?
If you want to work at Securitas in the US, you'll have to meet a few minimum hiring requirements.
As a general rule, you need to be at least eighteen years old. For an armed security position, that age raises to twenty-one. A high school diploma or GED diploma is required for entry-level roles. All employees need basic written and verbal communication skills with some positions in corporate or management also requiring a degree or experience.
To have a successful security career, you'll need leadership skills, excellent time management skills, and patience. You should be cool and calm under pressure and have conflict-resolution skills.
Securitas expects you to have reliable transportation. You should also be physically fit, have integrity, and be comfortable standing for long periods.
If you're available for flexible shifts, both day and night, it'll be an advantage.
What jobs are available at Securitas?
Securitas has a range of employment opportunities for job seekers. Here's a rundown of some of the positions available now.
1. Security officer
Securitas has both part-time and full-time security officer positions. These team members are assigned to an area and make sure it's safe.
Security officers can work in different locations, including shopping malls, concierge desks, and distribution centers. There are also patrol positions, where zones are monitored by foot or vehicle.
Security officers enforce rules and serve customers. Depending on the role, they may check in visitors and offer directions. They monitor and respond to any unusual behavior.
Security officer jobs are entry-level. You'll get job training and support to get your guard license. As mentioned above, you'll need confidence, a positive attitude, and excellent communication skills.
If it's a patrol position, a valid driver's license is essential.
2. Emergency response officer
When an incident occurs, emergency response officers are the first to arrive. They check the scene and let dispatchers know about the situation.
Emergency response officers can give first aid and start rescue procedures. They can help to put out fires using fire hydrants and hoses.
These officers perform other general duties as needed. For example, they open buildings, patrol areas, and escort visitors.
Emergency response officers keep written documents and work closely with dispatch teams. Securitas is looking for candidates with training and relevant certification like an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) or EMR (Emergency Medical Responder) certification.
You'll need leadership skills, problem-solving skills, and analytical skills. Physical fitness and manual dexterity are also required.
3. CCTV operator (Closed Circuit Television)
CCTV operators monitor video surveillance systems. They help to keep the environment safe and keep logs of any incidents.
CCTV operators maintain recordings and share information with the police department. If the operator notices a security breach, they flag it and make sure it's investigated.
Sometimes CCTV operators need to monitor alarms. These can be in domestic or commercial properties. If an intruder is detected, the CCTV operator will alert the emergency dispatch team.
If you've ever worked in a call center or camera monitoring position, your experience is an advantage. CCTV operators need computer skills, attention to detail, and communication skills.
Recruiters help Securitas find new security officers. For example, they advertise open positions, attend job fairs, and screen applicants. They read applications and are present during job interviews.
Recruiters make sure personnel files are up to date and answer any questions. They can be there to support security guards during orientation and may provide training.
Recruiters answer phones, type letters, and write emails.

5. Shift lead
Shift lead security officers are assigned to different client sites. They use their leadership and patrol skills to support a team of security guards.

Shift leads make sure all security officers are confident in their roles. They offer guidance to new team members and make sure they're doing the right thing. If a security officer needs help dealing with a situation, they can ask the shift lead for support.
For example, if there’s an intoxicated person who doesn’t want to leave, the shift lead will use their conflict management skills to escort them from the property.
Shift leads usually start out as security officers.

Tips for your Securitas application

Common Securitas interview questions
If the hiring manager thinks you could be a good fit for the role, you'll get a prescreening phone call. You'll be asked a few basic questions, and you’ll need to verify some of the information on your application.

Does Securitas do a background check?
Yes. After your Securitas interview, you may be offered a job. But, before you can start work, you'll have to pass a background check.
The company uses an online program called E-Verify to confirm some of your details. For example, the system looks at your employment eligibility and Social Security Number.
There's also a criminal background check. This goes back at least seven years and looks at local, state, and national databases. Any felonies and misdemeanors will be flagged but won't automatically disqualify you from working there.
The type of incident, time passed, and any changes you've made will be taken into consideration. The hiring manager wants to know that the public and its existing employees will be safe. For example, if there's a history of assault, you probably won't get the job. However, if you were arrested for a drug-related crime and have gone through rehabilitation, you could still get the position.
If you know there's something that may show up on your background check, you can discuss it during the job interview.
Someone from Securitas will usually call your references. You can expect your education and work experience to be verified. A driving record check and credit check will only be requested if relevant to the job title.
Does Securitas do a drug test?
During the background check process, you'll be asked to take a drug test. Depending on where you live, this could either be a urine sample or a mouth swab.
The types of drugs Securitas looks for include cocaine, marijuana, opiates, amphetamines, methamphetamines, and phencyclidine (PCP). Once the sample has been collected, it'll be taken to a third-party laboratory for testing.
If any drugs show up in your system, it could impact your chance of getting hired. Keep in mind some prescription medications may appear on your drug test. If you're concerned, you should talk to your doctor, as a medical certificate may be required.
Securitas has the right to conduct random drug tests at any time during your employment. These drug tests are most common if there's been an incident or accident at work. If you do fail a random drug test, it could lead to your termination.

The salary at Securitas can depend on where you live, your experience, and your job title. In the US, the average hourly wage for a Securitas employee is $12.82.
If you want to work as a security officer, you can expect to make between $10.00 and $18.00 per hour.
A security supervisor can make slightly more, with a pay range of $12.00 to $21.00. Those who get a job as a security manager can earn between $13.00 and $32.00 per hour.
There are also corporate positions available. For example, a recruiter makes an average of $19.00 per hour, and a human resources specialist makes between $13.00 and $23.00 per hour.
The average salary for a receptionist is $15.00 per hour, and for an operations analyst, it’s $22.00 per hour.
