**Amazon’s seasonal jobs start in November and go to the beginning of January. **

Amazon hires a large number of seasonal workers to support its business, for both part-time and full-time hours. Full-time temporary employees may be eligible for benefits, like healthcare beginning on the first day, 401K, and paid time off. Many seasonal workers get hired on permanently after the season ends.

The hourly pay rate for seasonal positions averages between $16 - $20 per hour, depending on the job, geographic location, and hours (overnight shifts earn a higher rate of pay). Amazon has 110 fulfillment facilities across the country; nearly all operate 24 hours a day. Some seasonal positions in some markets offer hiring bonuses of up to $1,500.

Types of seasonal work at Amazon

Holidays are an especially busy time for Amazon; the company needs assistance to get merchandise to customers for the main Amazon site, Amazon Prime, Amazon Fresh, and Whole Foods divisions. These seasonal jobs are fast-paced and can be physically demanding.

Here’s an overview of positions:

Sortation Team jobs

This seasonal team gets orders ready to ship to customers at warehouses around the country. Duties include:

  • Sort, scan, and stack packages on pallets
  • Prepare customer orders for delivery
  • Use technology like scanner, computers, and handheld printers

Delivery Stations Team

The delivery stations team sorts packages into delivery routes. This is an active seasonal position that requires a lot of lifting.

  • The Delivery Stations Team also includes a team to handle heavy/bulky items like large screen TVs, furniture, and refrigerators. Similarly, this team sorts these bigger packages into delivery routes.
  • Delivery Stations Team members work set schedules

Shopper Team

This is a fast-paced seasonal division and involves picking merchandise and packing orders for quick turns.

  • Prime Now Warehouses operate the company’s 2 hours or less delivery service. These are small teams that must be nimble to pack orders within an hour. In addition to regular merchandise, Prime Now selections include perishable foods items, so the warehouse can be cool. Team members select hours on a weekly basis.

  • Whole Foods Shoppers work in the grocery store setting, locating and carefully selecting items from customers’ grocery lists, and packaging them for delivery within two hours. Shoppers communicate directly with customers about their order through a smartphone app. Team members select hours on a weekly basis; there are no overnight shifts.

Seasonal work at Amazon offers flexibility in hours and good wages. If you enjoy a fast-paced workday, consider joining the seasonal team at Amazon!
