1. Claims research associate

Whenever people submit health insurance claims, an employee needs to go through the claim manually. As a claims research associate, you’ll be part of this procedure. You’ll process medical claims and resolve inquiries on claims.

A claims research associate needs to work fast. You’ll need to resolve inquiries and claims promptly while working in this position. It’s also vital to follow regulations while you work since health insurance companies follow strict rules.

If you have experience interacting with customers and working in a job that requires time management, you may have the chops to perform this job. The Blue Cross also requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Plus, you need strong communication skills to perform your duties effectively.

If the job sounds intimidating, don’t worry. This is an entry-level position at the company, which means the Blue Cross offers a 13-week training program for all new workers in this position.

But what if you don’t have any previous work experience? If you’ve had volunteer experience that allowed you to interact with customers and manage your time, highlight it on your resume, so you have a better chance of landing this position.

2. Customer service representative

5. Print and fulfillment technician

That’s what you’ll do as a print and fulfillment technician. While you work in this position, you’ll ensure the timely and accurate assembly and distribution of all sorts of printed materials, including but not limited to:

You’ll operate equipment designed for this purpose while you collaborate with your managers, support staff, and other service technicians to make sure the process runs smoothly and cost-effectively.

You need a high school diploma or equivalent to become a print and fulfillment technician. Strong candidates have prior experience with Microsoft Excel. Some positions will require one year of experience in print and fulfillment, while others will provide you with training.

You also need a valid driver’s license — or the ability to obtain your license within 30 days of hire.

6. Contract specialist

When insurance companies provide coverage for their customers, they need to negotiate contracts with healthcare providers. That’ll be your job when you work as a contract specialist.

As a contract specialist, you’ll work closely with the legal department to make sure your contracts are legal and compliant with the company’s guidelines. You’ll update and maintain contracting documents, but you’ll also identify and contact new service providers to draft new agreements.

7. Member outreach representative

While customer service representatives respond to customer inquiries, a member outreach representative will proactively reach out to customers instead.

As a member outreach representative, you’ll follow a call script to reach out to members. Your goal is to close gaps in member care quality and make sure customers perform proactive health practices. For instance, you can explain the importance of getting an annual checkup with a healthcare provider and help them coordinate appointments.

If you’ve ever worked as a customer service representative, this position is a great opportunity to move forward. Most positions require one year of general experience in administration or customer service.

You also need a high school diploma or GED and good communication skills.

8. Subrogation examiner

As a subrogation examiner, you’ll research and examine health claims related to Worker’s Compensation or Third Party Liability. You won’t research other types of claims.

In short, your job is to verify whether another entity should be the one to reimburse insurance claims instead of the Blue Cross.

New associates will receive training, while more advanced people in this position will be required to train new hires. Some positions prefer candidates to have a college degree, but it’s not required to land the job.

However, you do need a year of inbound or outbound call experience to succeed in this position.
