You could get paid up to $16,000 to move cities and work from there. As many people start opting for work-from-home opportunities, cities across the country are looking to make their destination an attractive option for remote workers.

And as space became more important during the pandemic, destinations are also hoping to lure those looking to escape the more expensive, congested cities for cheaper, more spacious alternatives. The financial incentives and qualifications vary by city, but most require new residents to live there for one year before payouts are given.

Get $16,000 to move to Topeka, Kansas

Topeka and the greater Shawnee County area of Kansas are offering up to $16,000 for those willing to relocate there. Benefits vary depending on if you work on-site at a company or work remotely while living in Topeka.

Those that work on-site will receive up to $10,000 in funds for renting in the first year, while those that purchase a home can get up to $15,000. Remote workers instead will receive up to $5,000 or $10,000, depending if they rent or purchase. Plus, Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches will add a $1,000 bonus if you relocate into one of their delivery zones.

Eligibility requirements also differ between on-site and remote workers. You must be able to work in the U.S.

Get $10,000, a $2,500 package, and free workspace in Morgantown, West Virginia

Ascend West Virginia will pay you $10,000 to move to Morgantown, which is home to West Virginia University. If you're chosen, you'll receive the $10k in monthly installments; if you stay for two years, you'll receive an extra $2,000. A free outdoor recreation package worth more than $2,500 and free coworking space are also part of the deal.

To be eligible, you must be 18 years old, have full-time remote employment, and able to work in the U.S. The program website also states you must be drawn to an outdoor lifestyle.

Get $10,000 plus free perks in Tulsa, Oklahoma

Tulsa, Oklahoma is offering $10,000 to people who move to the city in 2021. The city will provide some money upfront, some via a monthly stipend, and the rest of the $10,000 is given once you've lived there for one year.

For those who purchase a home in Oklahoma, the payment is given upfront. Free coworking desk space in a downtown space, plus more exclusive perks and events add additional value to this opportunity.

To be eligible, you must be 18 years old, have full-time remote employment, or be self-employed outside of Oklahoma. You also must be able to work in the U.S.

Get $10,000 and a free bike to move to Northwest Arkansas

The Northwest Arkansas Council is looking to spend $1 million to attract new workers to its region. The destination will pay each recipient $10,000 to help with relocation costs.

Additionally, those selected can choose from a free mountain bike to help explore the area, or an annual membership to one of the arts and cultural institutions.

To be eligible, you must be 24 years old, have two years of work experience, have full-time remote employment (can be self-employment), and currently reside outside of Arkansas.

Get $10,000 to live in Shoals, Alabama

The Shoals, Alabama region is offering $10,000 to remote workers who move to the area. They'll give recipients $2,500 upfront, another $2,500 after the first 6 months in the Shoals, and the remaining $5,000 after being there for one year.

To be eligible, you must be employed as a full-time remote employee or self-employed outside Colbert and Lauderdale counties, have an annual income of at least $52,000, be 18 years old and able to work in the U.S.

Get $10,000 plus a $2,500 package from Newton, Iowa

If you move to Newton, Iowa and purchase a home, you can receive up to $10,000 thanks to the Newton Housing Initiative. For homes that are valued at $180,000 or more, owners will receive $10,000.

Homes valued between $100,000 and $179,999.99 get a $5,000 cash incentive. Everyone also receives a "Get to Know Newton" welcome package valued at over $2,500.

Since this a housing initiative, there are no employment requirements. However, there are various housing eligibility rules.

Moving anywhere is a personal decision for each of us. If someone is winding down their career, then somewhere like these suggestions would equate to slowing down as opposed to the night life of Rochester NY. Me, I have family in the midwest, might do me right to be closer to them in Iowa. Again,a personal decision, but think it through.
