Great habits to have every day to be successful while job searching
Jump to section

During COVID it’s easy to fall into the same old routine, but it’s important to push yourself to succeed even when it’s difficult. Here are some things that you can do to stay on track and help boost that #jobsearch.

Wake up early

With one day blending into the next during COVID sleeping in everyday sounds like a pretty good plan, but think again. If you wake up early you will be more productive, accomplish more during the day and you'll be more tired by the end of the night, making it easier to fall asleep. This creates a better sleep cycle which is important for your health and mental well being so you can stay strong.

However, waking up early just to wake up early isn’t going to motivate you to become a morning person. It’s important to know exactly what you want to accomplish in the early morning hours and how you’ll get it done will. In this case, make a list of all the goals of your job search for that day and a list of employers you want to reach out to and #interivew with. Set goals and hold yourself accountable!

Stick with it

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and sometimes you may just want to throw in the towel, but don’t! Those that are successful are the individuals that don’t give up and keep going. When you feel down push yourself forward and know that it's ok if finding the right job takes a little longer than you expected.

“I too found myself on unemployment and then finally landing a part-time job that turns out to be a blessing in disguise. I would like to encourage you to not give up. It can be challenging no doubt but hang in there.”

Eat healthily

It’s no secret that what you eat fuels your body so if you eat terribly you will feel...well, terrible. Instead of grabbing empty calorie snacks like cookies or chips stick to things that will make you feel full and satisfied so you can fuel that brain and body! Foods like fruits, nuts, cheese, and fresh veggies will help keep you going. It's especially important during COVID to eat the rights things so you stay healthy.

Keep learning

While you search use this time to sharpen your skills and take a course or two! Learning something new will help provide you with a competitive edge over other applicants. Check out how short term training can assist you in landing a great role.

You could also sign up and take a few courses for free for 30 days at Lynda.com (now known as LinkedIn Learning) and learn at your own pace from a qualified instructor. You can also check out MasterClass where you can learn lessons from the very best (and famous) actors, singers, writers, etc. at their craft as they share stories, skills, shortcuts, and success stories. You can also find TONS of great content for free online or at your local library.
