1. Conference center guest services agent

As a conference center guest services agent, you’ll provide general administrative support for guests and colleagues. People in this role perform a variety of clerical activities and customer service tasks.

For example, you’ll need to answer the phone and direct calls to the right people. You’ll also greet visitors and guide them in the right direction.

You don’t need any experience or a college degree to perform this role. However, you’ll need to learn how to:

While the main front office manager is in charge of managing the day-to-day operations, you’ll be there to support them, depending on their needs. You may also be called to take the manager’s place when needed.

Other tasks you’ll assist with include:

  • Handling compliments, complaints, and concerns from guests

  • Preparing schedules and training for staff

  • Helping control inventory of stock

  • Keeping the front office clean and organized

  • Helping the manager make sure front office operations meet the required standards (which depends on the location)

An associate’s degree is preferred but not required for this career. The company also prefers that candidates have some experience in customer service and/or hospitality.

4. Catering attendant

A catering attendant, also known as a hospitality aide, manages and maintains all pantries and public areas of a location. You’ll be the main contact for the pantries, and you’ll also be responsible for warmly welcoming all customers, clients, and staff members.

Other responsibilities for this role include:

  • Arranging office repairs and maintenance

  • Setting up conference rooms

  • Making sure trash gets removed regularly

  • Restocking the office, kitchen, and pantry

  • Providing information about the location to customers

  • Conducting opening and closing walkthroughs as needed

You need to be talented at hospitality-related tasks to succeed in this role. You also need to have strong communication skills. Finally, you need to be able to lift furniture weighing up to 50 lbs.

A few years of experience in the service industry is preferred but not required for this position. If you have other experience working with customers, be sure to include it on your resume.

5. Receptionist

As a receptionist, you’ll provide administrative and clerical support for your colleagues. This includes answering phones, processing data, and maintaining records.

You’ll also operate machines around the office, handle mail, and distribute materials to other office staff.

Some receptionist positions require experience, while others are entry-level. No matter the position, you’ll need to be able to type quickly and be familiar with word processing software.

6. Sous chef

A sous chef assists the executive chef in the kitchen. They help with planning and creating menus for catering and other culinary events.
