Amazon fulfillment center employee benefits
Jump to section

Employees at Amazon fulfillment centers are offered health insurance, disability insurance, retirement savings plans, and company stock options.

In addition to these Amazon employee benefits, the salary is 30% higher than most other retail stores. Amazon was one of the first retail-driven companies to raise its minimum wage to $15 an hour.

If you're considering applying for a job at an Amazon fulfillment center, you might want to learn more about employee benefits.

In this article, we'll tell you what you can expect from the job and the health, financial, and unique benefits that are available to workers.

What is the Amazon fulfillment center?

Sellers on Amazon can send their goods to a fulfillment center. A fulfillment center is an Amazon warehouse, where workers pick and pack stock ready for dispatch.

There are over 175 fulfillment centers worldwide, totaling over 150 million square feet of space.

Warehouse employees work with robotics and scanners. They receive incoming stock and oversee operations. These workers take care of everything from returns to packaging and shipping.

Amazon fulfillment centers are busy, well-organized warehouses. They rely on a diverse range of employees to run smoothly.

Why should you work at the Amazon fulfillment center?

If you work in an Amazon warehouse, the salary is usually above the minimum wage. Most jobs require no minimum experience, and there are opportunities to grow within the company.

You can expect good working conditions. For example, Amazon fulfillment centers have excellent ventilation, and the indoor climate is controlled to create a comfortable workplace. There may be some heavy lifting involved, but there are also conveyor systems to transport items.

Now is a good time to apply because they've opened up more job opportunities to support job seekers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Employees receive a range of benefits, including 10% off at Amazon.

There are roles for full-time, part-time, and seasonal employees.

What are the minimum requirements for Amazon benefits?

It's important to note that Amazon benefits can vary by location, the number of regularly scheduled hours you work, your length of employment, and job status.

If you're a full-time employee, you'll be eligible for a range of comprehensive benefits.

Part-time employees need to work at least 20 hours a week to be eligible for health benefits.

To access the 401(k) plan, employees need to be at least 18 years old. They're eligible for this retirement plan on their first day of work.

For parental options, you’ll need to have at least one year of continuous service by the date of a child’s birth or adoption placement.

What are the perks for Amazon fulfillment center employees? Let's take a look at some of the top benefits hourly team members receive:

Health and medical insurance

Amazon gives you multiple health insurance options. Medical benefits can cover both you and your eligible family members. Several plans include a Health Savings Account with employee and employer contributions. There are multiple network providers for the best care in your area.

The benefits package includes dental and vision insurance, mental health care, and mindfulness resources. Plus, you can get a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to help you pay for unexpected medical expenses.

Financial benefits

Amazon workers get access to a 401(k) retirement plan. You can set money aside for the future and take advantage of the 50% company match.

If you're a full-time employee, you’ll get paid time off for holidays. The company offers options for life insurance and short-term and long-term disability payments.

Amazon employees can purchase restricted stock units. You’ll also get an employee discount.

Family benefits

Amazon offers employees a range of family benefits. If you have a child, you'll get six weeks of paid parental leave. And there's assistance available for those looking to adopt.

The benefits package includes innovative programs such as Leave Share and Ramp Back. Both these programs give new parents flexibility with their growing families.

The Leave Share program lets employees share their Amazon paid leave with their spouse or domestic partner if their spouse's employer doesn't offer paid leave.

Ramp Back gives new mothers control over the pace at which they return to work. Just as with Amazon's health care plans, these benefits are the same for fulfillment center and customer service employees.

Unique Amazon employee benefits

The Amazon Employee Assistance Program gives you confidential support 24/7. There are resources and referrals to support you with any mental health concerns.

The company offers online resources for parents whose children have developmental disabilities, as well as help finding child and elder care referrals and assistance.

If there is a life-threatening illness or death, Amazon workers have access to financial counseling, estate planning, and other services.

Amazon Career-Choice program

Hourly employees are eligible to continue or advance their careers through the Amazon Career-Choice Program.

When you’ve been working for at least a year, the Amazon Career Choice Program will pre-pay 95% of tuition and fees if you want to earn certificates and associate’s degrees in high-paying, in-demand occupations. This includes aircraft mechanics, computer-aided design, machine tool technologies, medical lab technologies, and nursing.

Amazon will also reimburse 95% of the cost of all required textbooks. The program will pay up to $3,000 per year in tuition, textbooks, and other fees. This assistance is available for up to four years.

The company has built dedicated Career Choice classrooms at more than 25 fulfillment centers. This commitment makes it easier for employees to go back to school by offering classes onsite.

How much do Amazon employees make?

You know that the average salary for an Amazon fulfillment center employee is $15 per hour. The rate is slightly higher for delivery drivers, at $16 per hour.

Human resource assistants can make $21 per hour, and environmental health and safety (EHS) specialists can earn an average of $23 per hour. A warehouse supervisor can make $19 per hour.
